One Year and Counting…
I can't believe it's been a year already! I launched this site last year on National Survivors of Suicide Day. Time really does fly.
This year, National Survivors of Suicide Day is on November 22. As a new survivor, I had no idea this day even existed until last year, when I became a Survivor. I found the 2007 conference, specifically the broadcast, to be extremely helpful and educational. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention does a great job and I want to encourage survivors and their families and friends to consider participating in this year's event. There are more than 130 broadcasts this year. Hopefully there is one in a city near you!
On National Survivors of Suicide Day, Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, over 130 simultaneous conferences for survivors of suicide loss will take place. Click here to find a conference site near you.
If there isn't a 2008 location near you, and you'd like information about organizing a conference site in your area, please contact Rebecca Thorp, survivor initiatives manager, at rthorp@afsp.org.
For those survivors of suicide loss who don't live near a conference site or who find it difficult to attend in person, the 90-minute broadcast will also be available on the AFSP website from 1-2:30 p.m. EST, with a live online chat immediately following the program. Click here to register to watch from your own computer.
